This screen shot is possibly interesting to those who are familiar with ImagesPlus v3.0, PhotoShop CS2, and Scott Ireland's fine book, PhotoShop Astronomy. On page 60 he presents the "ultimate PS curves tweak," the "S" curve, which looks nothing at all like the curve that I've found useful so far in the newest version of IP.

Curves are tricky, old friend, as you well know by now. The "S" curve works on certain images, mainly those which have full tonal range to start with. Cutting back on the highlights (putting the S in the curve) prevents burning out of highlights. I used the S curve in my Andromeda and Orion shots, but not in most other images which do not have the brightness range of those objects. I should materialize these thoughts... perhaps in something I could call a lesson, no, a learning plan, no, a... tutorial!
